Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain electronic health record systems (VA VistA) ensuring data accuracy and accessibility
- Oversee health information privacy and security protocols to maintain HIPAA compliance
- Lead health data quality improvement initiatives and implement data governance best practices
- Train staff on health information management systems and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate with IT and clinical teams to resolve system integration issues
- Conduct regular audits of health information systems and documentation
- Develop policies for health information lifecycle management and retention
- Stay current with federal healthcare regulations and implement necessary updates
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or related field
- RHIA or RHIT certification required (CCA acceptable)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in health information management systems
- Expert knowledge of HIPAA and federal healthcare regulations
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems (VA VistA experience preferred)
- Demonstrated project management skills with complex system implementations
- Ability to obtain and maintain VA background clearance
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and regulatory compliance
