Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain electronic health records (EHR) systems in compliance with HIPAA, VA policies, and federal regulations
- Oversee health information coding, indexing, and retrieval processes to ensure data integrity
- Implement and audit record retention policies for both physical and digital health information
- Train staff on health information management systems and compliance protocols
- Coordinate with clinical departments to resolve health information discrepancies
- Lead health information system upgrades and process improvement initiatives
- Conduct regular audits to ensure regulatory compliance and data security
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or related field
- RHIA or RHIT certification required (CAHIIM accredited)
- Minimum 3 years' experience in health information management in a federal or large healthcare system
- Expert knowledge of HIPAA, VA directives, and CMS regulations
- Proficiency in EHR systems (e.g., VistA, Epic) and health information databases
- Demonstrated project management experience with system implementations
- Ability to obtain and maintain VA background clearance
