Responsibilities
- Monitor and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls via multi-line telephone systems and radio communication equipment.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire rescue, and emergency medical services to the appropriate locations based on incident details.
- Enter and maintain accurate, detailed incident reports and data logs within the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provide clear, concise instructions to field units and support them during complex emergency situations.
- Collaborate with other municipal agencies and support personnel to coordinate multi-agency responses.
- Perform routine equipment checks and system testing to ensure operational readiness at all times.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Virginia Class C Driver's License required.
- Previous experience in dispatch, customer service, or emergency services is highly preferred.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and make quick, accurate decisions under high-pressure conditions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly over radio channels.
- Must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening, and medical examination.
