The City of Oakland is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented professional to serve as our next City Clerk. This is a critical role within our municipal government, responsible for maintaining the official records of the City Council and ensuring the smooth operation of our democratic processes.

Responsibilities
- Record Management: Prepare, certify, and maintain accurate minutes, resolutions, ordinances, and agendas for the City Council and various Boards and Commissions.
- Public Records: Manage the City’s public records in strict compliance with the California Public Records Act (CPRA) and open meeting laws.
- Meeting Coordination: Oversee the logistics of City meetings, including scheduling, notice posting, and assisting with the preparation of meeting materials.
- Customer Service: Serve as the primary point of contact for the public regarding meeting schedules, agendas, and access to official records.
- Archiving: Ensure the proper filing, indexing, and archiving of all official City documents to ensure long-term accessibility and legal compliance.
- Vendor Relations: Manage contracts and procurement related to meeting services and printing needs.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; an Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Paralegal Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal or government administration.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with Records Management software (e.g., Accela, Lawtivity) is highly desirable.
- Legal Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of the California Public Records Act and Brown Act (Open Meeting Law).
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft clear and professional correspondence.
