Your Role

The City Clerk serves as the chief administrative officer for the Municipal Clerk’s Office, responsible for maintaining official city records, managing elections, and providing support to the City Council and Mayor. Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the City Clerk’s Office, including records management, document archiving, and public access to information.
  • Manage and coordinate municipal elections, including voter registration, ballot preparation, and election day operations.
  • Prepare and distribute official meeting agendas, minutes, and resolutions for the City Council and various boards and commissions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the public, providing accurate information regarding city ordinances, permits, and historical records.
  • Ensure strict adherence to state laws, municipal codes, and open meeting requirements regarding transparency and compliance.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of clerical staff, ensuring high standards of accuracy and customer service.
  • Oversee the procurement and maintenance of office equipment and software systems used for document management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, or related field preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a municipal government setting, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead capacity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with specialized government records management software (e.g., Accela, CivicPlus).
  • Strong knowledge of New Mexico Revised Statutes (NMSA) related to open meetings and public records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal and administrative information for the public.
