We are seeking a skilled IT Network Specialist to join the dedicated team at Harris County Government. As part of the county's IT division, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to modernize our network architecture, ensuring seamless connectivity for county departments and the public.
Responsibilities
- Network Maintenance: Design, configure, and maintain local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN) to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex network connectivity issues and hardware malfunctions efficiently under high-pressure conditions.
- Security Management: Implement and monitor network security protocols to protect county data against cyber threats and unauthorized access.
- Hardware Support: Oversee the deployment, maintenance, and upgrades of routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.
- User Assistance: Provide technical support and training to county staff regarding network usage and best practices.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of network configurations, changes, and technical documentation.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network engineering or systems administration within a government or enterprise environment.
- Certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent industry certification is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in TCP/IP, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and network diagnostic tools.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical staff.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical thinking and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
