Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance and repairs on municipal infrastructure including roads, sidewalks, and drainage systems
- Operate heavy machinery (e.g., graders, dump trucks) safely and efficiently
- Respond to emergency public works incidents during inclement weather and after-hours
- Conduct routine inspections of city facilities and report maintenance needs
- Ensure compliance with OSHA safety protocols and city regulations
- Assist with park maintenance, landscaping, and public space beautification
- Participate in disaster preparedness and recovery operations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on special projects
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred
- Valid Virginia driver's license with clean driving record
- Minimum 2 years' experience in construction, maintenance, or public works
- Certification in heavy equipment operation (CDL Class B or higher)
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs
- Strong commitment to public service and community safety
- Basic knowledge of blueprints and technical schematics
- Ability to pass background check and physical fitness assessment
