What You Will Do:
As a Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will assist in receiving and processing calls for service, dispatching law enforcement, fire, and medical units, and maintaining accurate logs of all activities. You will learn to manage high-stress situations, communicate effectively with diverse populations, and utilize advanced computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to 911 emergency calls and non-emergency lines.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units to appropriate locations based on call details.
- Enter and update incident information into the CAD system accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain radio communications with field units to provide updates and receive status reports.
- Assist in training new dispatchers and providing back-up support during peak hours.
- Ensure all departmental policies and procedures regarding call handling are followed.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as filing reports and maintaining records.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid Tennessee Class D Driver's License with a good driving record.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency in using computer systems and typing at a minimum speed of 35 WPM.
- Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Pass a thorough background check, drug screen, and medical evaluation.
