Key Responsibilities:
As a Pension Plan Specialist, you will act as a subject matter expert in state retirement systems, ensuring compliance with federal (ERISA) and state regulations while delivering exceptional service to our stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Review and process pension applications, retirement benefit claims, and eligibility requests with a focus on accuracy and adherence to state statutes.
- Conduct comprehensive data analysis to verify pension calculations and resolve discrepancies in employee records.
- Provide exceptional customer service to retirees, beneficiaries, and state employees via phone, email, and in-person inquiries regarding retirement benefits.
- Collaborate with the Actuarial Department to support fund valuation reports and ensure long-term financial sustainability of pension plans.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive financial and personal data in accordance with state privacy laws.
- Stay current on changes in legislation regarding public sector retirement and update internal procedures accordingly.
- Prepare and disseminate detailed reports regarding pension fund status and administrative efficiency.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pension administration, benefits coordination, or a related financial role.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and experience with HRIS or payroll software (e.g., PeopleSoft, SAP) is preferred.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of ERISA regulations and general principles of state government pension systems.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to non-experts.
- Attention to Detail: Proven track record of managing high volumes of data with zero errors.
- Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues and navigate complex scenarios to find equitable solutions.
