Responsibilities
- Receive, evaluate, and prioritize incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for service, dispatching appropriate police units with accurate location and incident details.
- Monitor and operate multi-channel radio communications to maintain situational awareness and coordinate field operations effectively.
- Maintain accurate and detailed radio logs and incident reports using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and paper records.
- Provide critical information to responding officers, including traffic conditions, building layouts, and descriptions of suspects or hazards.
- Perform administrative duties such as answering non-emergency phone lines, processing paperwork, and assisting with community outreach initiatives.
- Collaborate with other agencies, including Fire and EMS, to ensure seamless multi-agency responses during major incidents.
- Adhere to strict departmental protocols, confidentiality agreements, and professional standards of conduct at all times.
Qualifications
- Must be a United States Citizen, permanent resident, or possess a valid Green Card.
- Must possess a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- Demonstrated ability to type at least 30-40 words per minute with high accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to speak clearly and concisely under pressure.
- Ability to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules.
- Pass a thorough background investigation, including fingerprinting, psychological evaluation, and medical examination.
- Valid New York State Driver's License is required.
