The City of Toledo Police Department is currently seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Police Dispatcher Trainees. As a Trainee, you will undergo rigorous training to learn the ins and outs of emergency communications, radio dispatching, and incident management. Upon successful completion of your training program, you will be fully certified as a Police Dispatcher, playing a critical role in the safety and security of the Toledo community.
Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and provide appropriate assistance or dispatch appropriate emergency services.
- Unit Dispatching: Utilize computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems to send law enforcement, fire, and EMS units to the scene of incidents efficiently.
- Radio Communication: Monitor police radio frequencies to receive status updates from field units and relay vital information in real-time.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all calls, dispatches, and incidents for legal and administrative purposes.
- Information Verification: Verify information received from callers, cross-reference with local databases, and provide timely updates to responding units.
- Training Support: Assist senior dispatchers in training new recruits and participate in ongoing professional development.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree or coursework in criminal justice is a plus.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
- Typing Speed: Minimum typing speed of 40-50 words per minute.
- Emotional Stability: Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional under high-stress and emergency situations.
- Driver's License: Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Clean Record: No felony convictions or serious misdemeanors; background check required.
