Responsibilities
- Monitor and answer incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls via radio and telephone systems.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) units to incident locations based on call information.
- Enter and maintain accurate incident reports, status updates, and resource information into CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems.
- Provide life-saving instructions to callers in distress until first responders arrive on scene.
- Coordinate communication between field units, dispatch, and other city agencies during major events or incidents.
- Perform clerical duties including data entry, file maintenance, and answering general inquiries.
- Stay updated on local traffic conditions, road closures, and weather alerts to assist in route planning.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required; post-secondary education in criminal justice or communications is a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid Driver’s License in the State of Kentucky with a clean driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly over radio and telephone.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure in emergency and stressful situations.
- Basic computer literacy and demonstrated typing proficiency (minimum 35-40 WPM).
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
