In this role, you will learn to operate advanced Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and radio communications equipment. You will be responsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, prioritizing requests, and coordinating the response of police, fire, and medical units. Responsibilities
- Receive and process a high volume of incoming calls, distinguishing between emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services to incident locations using two-way radio and telephone.
- Monitor the status of units in the field and reassign resources as necessary to maximize efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all calls, incidents, and dispatch activities.
- Provide critical life-saving instructions and crisis intervention support to callers during emergencies.
- Perform data entry and maintain up-to-date computer records within the CAD system.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
- Ability to type 35 words per minute (wpm) or higher is highly preferred.
- Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
