Responsibilities
- Receive, screen, and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical units to incidents using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and reports of all communications and dispatches.
- Communicate clearly and efficiently with field personnel, supervisors, and other public safety agencies.
- Monitor police department radio frequencies, CCTV surveillance systems, and status boards.
- Assist in training and mentoring new dispatch staff during the trainee program.
- Perform data entry and update criminal history databases and status information.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is required; post-secondary education in criminal justice or public safety is preferred.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is mandatory.
- Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record is required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely.
- Ability to type accurately and work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in using computers and navigating multiple software applications.
