Responsibilities
- Monitor police radio frequencies and emergency communications channels for real-time updates.
- Receive, prioritize, and process emergency (911) and non-emergency calls from the public.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical personnel to incident scenes with precision and speed.
- Enter and maintain accurate incident reports and logs in the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Provide critical information to field units and coordinate resources during complex situations.
- Maintain a professional demeanor while communicating with distressed or agitated callers.
- Stay updated on department policies, new technologies, and geographical knowledge of the New Orleans area.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- Valid Louisiana Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
- U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status required.
- Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, drug screen, and medical evaluation.
- Excellent typing speed (minimum 35 WPM) and computer proficiency.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to de-escalate tense situations.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
