Responsibilities
- Receive and Triage Calls: Answer incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls to determine the nature and urgency of the situation, gathering critical information from callers.
- Unit Dispatch: Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to the appropriate locations using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems with speed and accuracy.
- Maintain Logs: Accurately document all calls, dispatches, and unit status updates in the computer system for legal and statistical purposes.
- Monitor Surveillance: Continuously monitor city surveillance cameras and traffic systems to identify and respond to suspicious activities or hazards.
- Resource Coordination: Coordinate with other public safety agencies, hospitals, and utility companies during large-scale incidents or emergencies.
- Public Assistance: Provide information to the public regarding police services, traffic conditions, and community events.
- Escalation Management: Identify and escalate critical situations to supervisors or senior officers when necessary to ensure public safety.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; some college coursework in criminal justice or communications is a plus.
- License: Valid Arizona Class D Driver's License required; a clean driving record is mandatory.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely over radio and telephone systems.
- Typing: Proficiency in typing (minimum 35-40 words per minute) with high accuracy.
- Stress Tolerance: Ability to remain calm, composed, and focused in high-stress, high-volume situations.
- Computer Literacy: Basic computer skills and the ability to learn complex dispatch software quickly.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen and pass a comprehensive background check, drug screen, and medical examination.
