What You Will Do
As a Police Dispatcher Trainee, you will receive intensive training on communication systems, emergency protocols, and call-taking procedures. You will work under the supervision of senior dispatchers to handle incoming calls, dispatch units, and maintain accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public with calmness and efficiency.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel to the appropriate locations using CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) systems.
- Monitor police radio frequencies and provide real-time updates to field units.
- Maintain detailed and accurate logs of all calls, incidents, and unit status.
- Provide information and assistance to citizens inquiring about police services or non-emergency matters.
- Collaborate with other agencies and support units during multi-agency responses.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in typing and computer navigation is highly preferred.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
