Responsibilities
- Monitor Communications: Continuously monitor police, fire, and medical radio frequencies to detect and respond to emergencies and requests for assistance.
- Receive Calls: Answer incoming telephone lines, including 911 emergency calls, with urgency and accuracy, gathering essential incident details.
- Dispatch Units: Relay critical information to responding officers and units, including location, nature of the call, and instructions for safe approach.
- Maintain Logs: Record detailed and accurate logs of all calls, dispatches, and events in the CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) system.
- Coordinate Response: Collaborate with other agencies and units during multi-jurisdictional incidents to ensure a cohesive response strategy.
- Caller Assistance: Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers and offer navigation assistance when needed.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; post-secondary education in criminal justice or communications is a plus.
- License: Valid Arizona Class D Driver’s License required.
- Background: Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, and drug screening.
- Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to type proficiently (minimum 35-40 wpm).
- Stress Tolerance: Ability to remain calm, focused, and composed during high-stress emergency situations.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and nights.
