The City of Memphis Public Safety Department is seeking dedicated, detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Police Dispatcher Trainees. In this critical role, you will serve as the vital link between the public and our first responders. As a Dispatcher Trainee, you will undergo comprehensive, paid training to become a certified Emergency Communications Officer. You will be responsible for answering 911 calls, dispatching police, fire, and medical units, and maintaining accurate logs. Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls with empathy and accuracy.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical units to the scene using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Provide critical information to field personnel to ensure officer and citizen safety.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of calls, units dispatched, and incident details.
- Monitor radio frequencies and alert appropriate units to developing situations.
- Assist in training new dispatchers and answering public inquiries regarding department services.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Tennessee Class D Driver's License required.
- Ability to pass a background investigation, drug screen, and medical examination.
- Strong computer skills and typing proficiency (minimum 30-35 wpm).
- Ability to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
