What You Will Do:
Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls for service with high accuracy and empathy.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical service units to locations using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Provide critical information to field units, including unit status, location, and weather conditions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of calls, incident reports, and status changes in departmental databases.
- Monitor multiple radio frequencies and CCTV systems simultaneously to identify and respond to emerging situations.
- Calmly and effectively communicate with distraught callers, providing life-saving instructions when necessary.
- Assist in training new dispatchers and maintaining communication center equipment.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Tennessee Class D Driver’s License required with a clean driving record.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely over the radio.
- Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM) and proficiency with computer applications.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Willingness to undergo a thorough background investigation, drug screen, and psychological evaluation.
