What You Will Do:

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls for service with high accuracy and empathy.
  • Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical service units to locations using Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
  • Provide critical information to field units, including unit status, location, and weather conditions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of calls, incident reports, and status changes in departmental databases.
  • Monitor multiple radio frequencies and CCTV systems simultaneously to identify and respond to emerging situations.
  • Calmly and effectively communicate with distraught callers, providing life-saving instructions when necessary.
  • Assist in training new dispatchers and maintaining communication center equipment.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Valid Tennessee Class D Driver’s License required with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely over the radio.
  • Strong typing skills (minimum 35-40 WPM) and proficiency with computer applications.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to undergo a thorough background investigation, drug screen, and psychological evaluation.
