Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming emergency (911) and non-emergency calls via telephone, radio, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Dispatch law enforcement officers, fire units, and EMS personnel to the correct location based on caller information.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and detailed logs of all incidents, calls for service, and unit activity.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with field officers, supervisors, and the public in high-pressure situations.
- Monitor police radio frequencies and alert personnel to severe weather warnings, civil disturbances, or critical incidents.
- Verify information and provide guidance to callers during emergency situations until units arrive on scene.
- Assist in the training of new dispatch personnel and support the overall operations of the Communications Center.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record are mandatory.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to speak clearly over radio frequencies.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and focused under extreme pressure.
- Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn new software and dispatch systems quickly.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
