Responsibilities

  • Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public regarding crimes, accidents, and medical situations.
  • Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and medical units to the appropriate locations with accurate information.
  • Enter and update incident reports, warrants, and citations into the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
  • Maintain constant vigilance on multiple radio frequencies to ensure effective communication with field personnel.
  • Monitor closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to assist in locating suspects or missing persons.
  • Provide information and assistance to the public regarding police procedures, city services, and non-emergency matters.
  • Perform light clerical duties and assist in training new dispatch personnel.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to type at least 35-40 words per minute (testing may be required).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Proficiency in using computers and navigating multiple software applications.
