Responsibilities
- Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, gathering critical information regarding location, nature, and circumstances of incidents.
- Dispatch law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical service units to incident scenes using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
- Monitor police radio frequencies and maintain situational awareness of ongoing incidents and unit availability.
- Accurately maintain detailed logs of calls, dispatches, and unit status for legal and historical records.
- Provide critical support to field officers by relaying orders, requests for assistance, and status updates.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of new dispatcher personnel.
- Perform administrative duties such as data entry, report generation, and answering departmental phone lines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year of experience in customer service, call center operations, or public safety dispatch preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak clearly and concisely over the phone.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure in high-stress emergency situations.
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency with typing (minimum 35-40 WPM).
- Must be a U.S. citizen or possess permanent resident status.
- Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check, drug screen, and medical evaluation.
