Responsibilities
- Receive and Process Calls: Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls with composure and efficiency to assess situations and dispatch appropriate units.
- Dispatch Operations: Utilize radio systems and Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) software to coordinate police, fire, and emergency medical services (EMS) response.
- Maintain Logs: Accurately document all calls, incidents, and radio traffic in departmental logs and databases.
- Caller Assistance: Provide critical information and instructions to callers in distress to ensure their safety while help is en route.
- Unit Coordination: Monitor unit status and availability to optimize response times and resource allocation during incidents.
- Report Taking: Gather and transcribe detailed information from callers into formal incident reports.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent required; additional certification in emergency dispatch is a plus.
- Typing Skills: Demonstrated ability to type at least 40 words per minute with high accuracy.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable learning and using complex radio and computer dispatch systems.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Background Check: Must pass a thorough background investigation, including criminal history and drug screening.
