As a Dispatcher Trainee, you will undergo comprehensive training to become a certified 911 Communications Specialist. You will be the vital link between citizens in distress and the first responders who protect them. We are looking for candidates who can thrive in a high-pressure environment and demonstrate exceptional communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Emergency Response Coordination: Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls via multi-line radio and telephone systems, accurately assessing the nature and location of the incident.
- Unit Dispatching: Utilize Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems to dispatch law enforcement, fire, and EMS units to the correct location with critical information.
- Real-Time Communication: Maintain constant communication with field units via radio to provide updates on traffic, weather, and changing situations.
- Record Maintenance: Ensure all calls, incidents, and officer status updates are logged accurately and confidentially in the dispatch database.
- Public Assistance: Provide the public with information regarding police services, road closures, and community events.
- Priority Management: Prioritize incoming calls based on urgency to ensure the most critical situations receive immediate attention.
- Training Compliance: Successfully complete all mandatory training modules and certification requirements to become a fully certified Dispatcher.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Driver's License: Valid Virginia driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to remain calm and professional during high-stress situations.
- Technical Proficiency: Basic computer literacy and a typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
- Background Check: Must be willing to undergo a thorough background investigation, polygraph examination, and psychological evaluation.
- Availability: Must be available to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnight hours.
