Responsibilities
- Conduct routine and complaint-based inspections of food establishments, childcare facilities, and public swimming pools
- Investigate potential health hazards and enforce local, state, and federal health regulations
- Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate regulatory documentation
- Provide technical guidance to businesses and the public on health compliance requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during public health emergencies and outbreak investigations
- Testify as a subject matter expert in regulatory hearings and legal proceedings
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field
- California Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) certification required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in environmental health inspections or regulatory enforcement
- Strong knowledge of California Retail Food Code and Title 22 regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and public interaction
- Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation for field inspections
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends for emergency response
