What You Will Do
Our Public Works Laborers are the backbone of our municipal operations. You will work alongside a diverse team of professionals to execute various maintenance projects and emergency response tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance Operations: Perform manual labor tasks including street sweeping, pothole repair, asphalt patching, and sign maintenance to ensure the longevity of city infrastructure.
- Snow & Ice Management: Operate snowplows, salt spreaders, and sanding equipment during inclement weather to keep roads clear and safe for commuters and emergency vehicles.
- Waste & Recycling Collection: Assist in the collection, sorting, and disposal of municipal waste and recyclables, ensuring adherence to environmental safety standards.
- Equipment Support: Perform routine cleaning, maintenance checks, and minor repairs on heavy machinery and hand tools used in daily operations.
- Public Works Support: Assist with park maintenance, tree trimming, and storm drain cleaning to protect the city's drainage systems.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA safety regulations, wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and report hazards immediately to supervisors.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in public works, landscaping, construction, or general labor is preferred but not required; we provide on-the-job training.
- License: Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform strenuous physical labor including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
- Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn new equipment operation.
- Communication: Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
