Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform general maintenance on streets, sidewalks, and public facilities, including pothole patching, sweeping, and graffiti removal.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate light to medium equipment such as pick-up trucks, dump trucks, loaders, and jackhammers under supervision.
- Traffic Control: Set up and monitor traffic control devices, including signs, cones, and flagging operations, to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
- Drainage & Landscaping: Clear storm drains and catch basins to prevent flooding; assist with seasonal landscaping and tree maintenance duties.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport construction materials, tools, and equipment using proper lifting techniques and safety protocols.
- Public Interaction: Interact professionally with the public, contractors, and fellow employees while answering inquiries regarding city services.
Qualifications
- License: Valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Experience: Prior experience in construction, landscaping, or municipal public works is highly preferred.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform heavy physical labor, including bending, lifting, standing, and working in various weather conditions for extended periods.
- Tools: Basic familiarity with hand and power tools (preferred).
- Communication: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- OSHA Compliance: Understanding of basic workplace safety standards and OSHA regulations.
