Your Role
As a Public Works Laborer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and improving the infrastructure of Baton Rouge. You will work alongside skilled tradespeople to ensure our streets, drainage systems, and public spaces remain safe and functional for the community.
Responsibilities
- Perform manual labor tasks including digging, paving, and hauling materials.
- Operate and maintain light to medium construction equipment and tools (e.g., jackhammers, rollers, dump trucks).
- Assist in street maintenance, snow removal, and drainage cleaning.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Interact with the public and other city departments professionally and efficiently.
- Load and unload construction materials and equipment at job sites.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid Louisiana Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
- Must be physically fit and able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Basic knowledge of construction tools and safety procedures is preferred.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
