Responsibilities
- Operate Heavy Equipment: Safely operate and maintain various heavy machinery, including dump trucks, graders, loaders, and backhoes.
- Perform Manual Labor: Execute general construction duties such as digging, paving, asphalt laying, grading, and concrete pouring.
- Maintain Infrastructure: Assist in the repair, maintenance, and cleaning of city streets, sidewalks, storm drains, and water lines.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls to address water main breaks, sewer overflows, and hazardous road conditions promptly.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to all OSHA safety regulations, traffic control laws, and departmental policies to ensure a safe work environment.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and properly store construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with a diverse team of engineers, supervisors, and other laborers to complete projects on time and within budget.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Driver’s License: A valid Texas Class C Driver’s License is mandatory.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds repeatedly and perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Experience: Previous experience in construction, road maintenance, or public works is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of construction equipment and safety protocols is a plus.
- Communication: Good verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
