The Role
As a Public Works Laborer, you will play a crucial role in the daily operations of the city. You will work outdoors, often in varying weather conditions, ensuring that Detroit remains a beautiful and safe place to live and work.
Responsibilities
- Perform general labor duties including paving, patching, and repairing roads and sidewalks.
- Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as pavers, rollers, and dump trucks safely.
- Assist with snow removal and ice control operations during winter months.
- Conduct street sweeping and clean-up activities in designated areas.
- Unload materials, tools, and supplies from trucks and organize work sites.
- Monitor work areas to ensure safety protocols are followed at all times.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent is preferred.
- Previous experience in public works, construction, or landscaping is a plus.
- Must possess a valid Michigan Driver's License.
- Ability to perform physical labor including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
