The City of Dallas Public Works Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Public Works Laborers. Responsibilities
- Maintenance Operations: Perform manual labor tasks including pothole repair, sweeping streets, cleaning catch basins, and maintaining right-of-ways.
- Equipment Support: Assist in the operation, maintenance, and cleaning of heavy equipment such as backhoes, rollers, sweepers, and dump trucks under supervision.
- Snow & Ice Control: Respond to inclement weather events by assisting in snow removal, salting, and ice control operations on city streets and sidewalks.
- Site Preparation: Prepare construction sites for paving and utility work by digging ditches, removing debris, and setting up traffic control zones.
- Inventory Management: Assist in the storage, loading, and unloading of construction materials, tools, and supplies.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA safety standards and City policies, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Experience: Previous experience in construction, landscaping, or municipal public works is preferred but not mandatory (on-the-job training provided).
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly, stand for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions (heat, rain, cold).
- Driver’s License: Valid Class C Texas Driver’s License required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.
- Skills: Basic knowledge of hand and power tools, ability to read a basic map, and strong communication skills.
- Availability: Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required for emergency response and maintenance.
