Job Summary:
As a Public Works Laborer, you will perform a variety of manual and semi-skilled tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and public buildings. This is a critical role in keeping Scottsdale beautiful and functional.
Responsibilities
- Maintain Public Infrastructure: Perform manual labor tasks including paving, patching, sweeping, and cleaning streets, alleys, and rights-of-way.
- Equipment Operation: Operate light to medium construction equipment, including dump trucks, rollers, and sweepers, under supervision.
- Utilities Support: Assist in the installation and repair of water mains, sewer lines, and storm drains.
- Site Preparation: Clear debris, excavate soil, and prepare sites for construction projects.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all OSHA safety regulations and City safety protocols to ensure a hazard-free work environment.
- Customer Service: Interact respectfully with the public and other City employees while performing duties.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of work vehicles and perform basic pre-trip inspections.
Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License: A valid Class C Arizona Driver’s License is required.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working in extreme weather conditions.
- Experience: Prior experience in construction, landscaping, or public works is preferred but not mandatory for qualified applicants.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of hand and power tools is a plus.
- Availability: Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and shift work as needed.
- Certifications: Any certifications in CDL or Flagger training are highly desirable.
