Responsibilities
- Meeting Administration: Plan, coordinate, and record minutes for the City Council and various boards and commissions, ensuring accurate documentation of all proceedings.
- Records Management: Oversee the retention, preservation, and retrieval of official city records in compliance with state and federal regulations, including the Washington State Public Records Act.
- Public Information: Serve as the liaison for public inquiries regarding council actions, ordinances, and resolutions, providing clear and timely information.
- Policy Implementation: Assist in the drafting, formatting, and dissemination of official communications, including the City Clerk's Report and other municipal notices.
- Supervision: Mentor and supervise junior staff within the Clerk's office, ensuring workflow efficiency and adherence to departmental standards.
- Compliance: Ensure all municipal activities adhere to legal statutes, bylaws, and ethical standards governing local government operations.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a municipal clerk role, government administration, or a related field. Experience with the Washington State Public Records Act is highly desirable.
- Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; exceptional attention to detail and organizational proficiency.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with specialized government records management software.
- Interpersonal: Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
