Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive land use plans and zoning regulations aligned with county strategic goals
- Lead public engagement initiatives including community workshops, public hearings, and stakeholder consultations
- Analyze development proposals for compliance with environmental regulations and infrastructure capacity
- Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for County Commission and Planning Board approval
- Collaborate with engineering, environmental, and economic development departments on integrated projects
- Manage long-range planning initiatives including transportation, housing, and open space strategies
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive planning experience in municipal or county government
- Valid AICP certification from the American Planning Association
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS preferred) and CAD drafting
- Demonstrated experience with zoning ordinance development and subdivision review
- Exceptional communication skills with ability to facilitate complex community discussions
- Knowledge of Alabama planning statutes and local regulations
