Role Overview:
The Senior IT Specialist will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex IT systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions that enhance agency operations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize the configuration of local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and network security systems.
- Oversee the maintenance, patching, and upgrades of servers, virtualization environments, and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure).
- Ensure compliance with state security standards and federal regulations (NIST, HIPAA) by implementing robust access controls and firewalls.
- Provide advanced technical troubleshooting and support for hardware and software issues affecting internal staff and stakeholders.
- Document system architecture, operational procedures, and incident reports to maintain knowledge bases.
- Collaborate with vendors and project managers to deploy new software solutions and hardware upgrades efficiently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in systems administration or network engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Windows Server, Linux (Red Hat/CentOS), and Active Directory.
- Experience with network hardware (Cisco, Juniper) and virtualization technologies (VMware).
- Valid CompTIA Security+ or higher certification is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
