Responsibilities
- Plan Administration: Oversee the daily administration of the County's defined benefit pension plans, ensuring accurate and timely processing of retirements, disability claims, and death benefits.
- Actuarial Reporting: Prepare complex actuarial reports and analysis for management review, ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the pension fund.
- Compliance & Regulation: Monitor and ensure strict compliance with California Government Code, ERISA regulations, and other applicable federal and state laws regarding pension plans.
- Member Services: Serve as a subject matter expert for internal staff and the public, providing detailed guidance on pension eligibility, calculations, and benefit formulas.
- Process Improvement: Identify operational inefficiencies in pension workflows and implement process improvements to enhance service delivery and reduce errors.
- Collaboration: Work closely with actuaries, external auditors, and the County's Risk Management division to address actuarial valuations and risk assessments.
- Data Analysis: Utilize advanced Excel skills and data visualization tools to analyze pension liabilities and trends.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in pension administration, actuarial services, or a related financial function within the public or private sector.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of California public retirement systems (e.g., CALSTRS, CALPERS) is highly desirable.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and experience with ERISA or HRIS platforms (e.g., SAP, PeopleSoft, Workday).
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to interpret complex data and regulations.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-technical audiences.
