Responsibilities
- Lead design and implementation of complex transportation infrastructure projects including highways, bridges, and transit systems
- Conduct traffic analysis, environmental impact assessments, and feasibility studies for urban mobility solutions
- Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources while ensuring compliance with federal/state regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including urban planners, environmental specialists, and construction managers
- Develop innovative solutions for traffic congestion, safety improvements, and sustainable transportation
- Prepare detailed engineering reports, specifications, and construction documentation
- Represent the department in public consultations and stakeholder meetings
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience with state/federal projects
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and traffic modeling software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM)
- Strong knowledge of MUTCD, AASHTO standards, and NCDOT design policies
- Demonstrated project management experience with budgets exceeding $5M
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills and ability to present technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Valid North Carolina driver's license
