Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive urban planning projects including zoning updates, neighborhood revitalization, and transit-oriented development
- Analyze demographic data, environmental impacts, and economic factors to inform planning decisions
- Facilitate community engagement sessions and public hearings to gather stakeholder input
- Develop and implement long-range plans aligned with Minneapolis' 2040 Comprehensive Plan
- Review development applications for compliance with city codes and planning standards
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and policy recommendations for city officials
- Collaborate with engineering, environmental, and housing departments on integrated projects
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive urban planning experience with municipal government preferred
- Professional certification (AICP) or eligibility for certification
- Expertise in zoning ordinances, land use regulations, and environmental review processes
- Strong quantitative and qualitative analysis skills with proficiency in GIS software
- Proven ability to facilitate complex community engagement initiatives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present to diverse audiences
- Knowledge of Minnesota planning statutes and Minneapolis-specific regulations
