Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive zoning and land use policies
- Analyze urban development proposals for compliance with city plans
- Lead community engagement initiatives for neighborhood revitalization
- Prepare environmental impact assessments and feasibility studies
- Coordinate with transportation and infrastructure departments
- Manage grant applications for federal/state funding programs
- Present findings to the Detroit City Council and Planning Commission
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field
- 5+ years of urban planning experience in municipal government
- Michigan AICP certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and CAD
- Strong knowledge of federal grant programs (HUD, EPA, DOT)
- Experience with community-based participatory planning
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
