Responsibilities
- Conduct field inspections and surveys of highways, bridges, and traffic systems to ensure compliance with safety standards
- Analyze traffic flow data and prepare detailed engineering reports for infrastructure improvement projects
- Assist in designing transportation plans using CAD software and GIS mapping technologies
- Coordinate with contractors, municipal agencies, and stakeholders to project implementation and timelines
- Maintain accurate documentation of project specifications, permits, and regulatory compliance
- Respond to public inquiries regarding transportation projects and construction schedules
- Participate in emergency response operations for weather-related incidents or infrastructure failures
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field (Bachelor's preferred)
- 3+ years of experience in transportation engineering or public works construction
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and transportation modeling software
- Tennessee Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Valid Tennessee driver's license with clean driving record
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret technical specifications and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for stakeholder engagement
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and travel across Shelby County
